Wonderful Sunday

We were able to name and bless our beautiful son on Sunday.

We love having a son and getting to know the joys of a boy.

And to end the day, the girls and I enjoyed a delicious watermelon from our garden.

It was an amazing day. Thanks to so many for sharing it with us. We love you all.

I cleaned the toys...

and found a prize! Talk about a good news day.

Morning Conversation

me: Brianna, why is Mikayla wearing your underwear?
Brianna: Mikayla wants to wear these panties.
me: Mikayla isn't big enough to use the potty yet.
Brianna: No. She is big enough. She has lots of teeth. I counted them. Mikayla open your mouth. See, lots of teeth.

It was early and my reasoning brain cells weren't working, so Mikayla is sporting a blue and pink poka dot pair of panties over her diaper. Wonder where Brianna came up with the idea she did. Wonder where a lot of her ideas and thoughts come from.

And the Speaking Saga Continues...

Mikayla just said, "more book"!

We're Doing Something Right

Brianna and I found this game online and this is a video of her playing it for the second time. She can read and recognize letters! She surprised us with how well she knows them. Now onto teaching her sounds. For best results pause music.

It's Finally Happened!

Mikayla has said her first word! Ben and I were in the kitchen when Mikayla came running in with her bowl and plan as day said, "more"!

When we ask her to say something, she just stares at us with a hugh grin on her face. We are so excited that she finally said a word.

Ants, Makeovers, and Stories

We have ants like crazy here and our girls love them. We either get ants in every container we own as Brianna's best friends or we get food all over the floor to feed them. We can always tell when I vacuum because the ants begin to climb the walls looking for food. Mikayla loves holding the ants!

My girls are all girl. They love clothes shopping, dressing up, and makeovers. We are so in love with them!

Brianna loves reading stories to David. So cute!

Birth Story

Well, since no one asked for it and I've been wanting to share it, I thought I'd post it. So, here is a brief ( ha ha! Its not) overview of bringing David into the world. But first to the anonymous commenter on the previous post. As for pictures of baby and mom, I only have two. The first one the nurse was pushing on my stomach. Not very attractive. Second one is nice. I have no good excuse for not posting it. So, here they are.

I love hearing birth stories and I love sharing mine. So, now for the story that apparently everyone is wanting to have told to them. Sadly I was induced, but Ben still drove us to the hospital as if I really were in labor.

10:00 a.m. the penicillin is started, I'm checked dilated to a 3.5 and 70% effaced, and we're told the oxytocin will be started at 1:00 p.m. I tested postive for group B strep and because of how fast I went with Mikayla (two and a half hours) and because of the CDC recommendations of a minimum of two doses during labor I had to have antibiotics for hours before they started my labor.

10:30 a.m. Ben leaves. He did put in a stupid movie for me to watch (Forces of Nature). That only added to my boredom.

12:45 p.m. Ben shows up and we walk the hospital halls until one.

1:15ish The oxytocin is finally started and I began to have contractions immediately. We're told that my second dose of penicillin will come at two and they will break my water then. Ben and I figured we'd have a baby by four at the latest. Boy, were we wrong.

2:00 p.m. I get the second dose and then my hand and wrist started feeling like they were burning. Worse pain so far and it just kept getting worse and spreading up my arm. I finally say something and they diluted the penicillin, but had to increase the I.V. flow into my hand. This caused my hand to swell and my ring finger went red. I couldn't remove my ring so I dealt with the pain (dumb idea because around 10:00 p.m. I broke and told Ben. I desperately wanted it off. Thankfully Ben got it off without dislocating my finger, but it sure was bruised).

2:30 p.m. still waiting for my water to get broken. Contractions are coming every 1 to 2 minutes apart. I've heard that labor is harder and more painful when induced with oxytocin or pitocin, but I wouldn't know if that were true or not. Perhaps I'll check with my best friend Google.

3:00 p.m. Still waiting. Feeling very jealous of other women who go into labor on their own. And through all of this so far (labor) Thomas (our office help) kept calling and needing Ben (I understand him needing help) and when Ben wasn't on the phone he was occasionally checking things online (very annoyed with this). At some point he also left to go get something to eat.

3:35 p.m. I caved and got the epidural. It didn't numb me, it just took the edge off of the contractions. And up to this point our baby kept kicking the monitors off. He just would not stop moving. Him stretching out made the contractions more painful. The nurse was constantly moving the monitors and pushing on my stomach trying to get decent readings.

3:45ish My mom and Aunt Jane show up to visit! I was so excited. Up to now I was bored and miserable.

4:30 p.m. Finally I get my water broken. I'm checked again and still dilated to a 3.5 and 70% effaced. Nothing had changed. I never have any progress until my water is broken. And that includes my two other labors. So, I will never have an exciting birth story or it seems even a birth story that people will care to ask about.

5:30ish Jane leaves and my dad shows up to take my mom on a date. They leave shortly.

6:00 p.m. start feeling pressure and find out that the baby is coming down the canal.

6:35 p.m. start pushing. After pushing through two contractions I lose it and start saying, "I can't do this". The doctor and nurse are like there's the head, you can do this. I'm looking in the mirror and see no head. All those stories of women pushing for hours start going through my head and I'm like, "oh great". I push through another contraction, while Ben tells the doctor that both our girls can out first contraction (which is very true).

6:59 p.m. The very next contraction my body shot the baby out. I didn't even push. He came out so fast that the doctor barely had time to unwrap the cord from around his neck and catch the baby. To me it looked like a very awkward catch.

6:59 p.m. We had a baby boy!

I have enjoyed all the visit and gifts we've recieved. Thank you all for celebrating his birth with us!

We are so excited to have a boy join our family. Ben loves his girls, but he is incredibly proud to have an heir for his name. We love having David as part of our family!
